I use an older receiver and it only supports AC3, and with a good 5.1 speaker system, it sounds great. Converting all your media to AC3 won't really cost you anything in terms of quality. On most films, sound quality isn't paramount to a enjoyable viewing session. Its a codec from the early 90s, but audio codecs have been good enough since the early 90s, that's when MP3 was released as a standard and it is still going strong today.ĪC3 is good enough. It will scan your media and allow you to convert the audio on all the files in a batch to AC3.ĪC3, for my needs, has been fantastic. There is an application called "popcorn time audio convertor". As of now i am just converting dts to aac using xmedia recode with Fraunhofer fdk with 1500kbps and i am leaving every other option to default as i don't have a clue.so which one should i go for to be able to play surround with highest audio quality possible. I was searching lot in reddit and web and just following thes guides. Only after my tv didn't play sound, i am forced into these kind of things. I really have no knowledge about these things previously. Ac3 is limited to 640kbps, using Fraunhofer fdk i can set aac bit rate to 1500kbps.is aac high bitrate worth it over ac3 640kbps. I still haven't tested my tv support flac, so i have to check that too. My doubt is fill i get surround if i convert dts to flac?. Which format should i convert the dts track to? Ac3 or aac? Or flac simply. So i learnt how to rip Bluray, still confused about many things. So this is the setup i am stuck with instead of connecting Bluray Player directly to 5.1 speakers. I just have my Bluray connected to Tv and My surround Speakers connected to Tv from earc. I have lot of old bluray 4k discs with dts track an no dolby surround on them. But was furious to found out that it doesn't support DTS.
